Hey Phoenix! Step Into an Iron Worker's boots For a Day

Are you looking for a hands-on event during SteelDays? Join Iron Workers Local 75 and AISC for an event like no other. You’ll experience a variety of different training stations that will allow you to experience what an ironworker does on a daily basis on a jobsite. You’ll have the opportunity to do virtual welding, bolting, beam rigging, or climb a column--plus, you’ll learn how to make the most of IMPACT and AISC resources on your next project. The tour will take roughly two hours. Bring PPE and safety goggles if you have them (or we’ll have some you can borrow) and be sure to wear long pants, work boots, and no tank tops/crop tops/quarter-length sleeves.

With its undulating form and distinct gallery spaces, OCMA is the final component of a multi-disciplinary arts campus surrounding the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa--and it won a 2023 IDEAS² Award from the American Institute of Steel Construction. Join Parbi Boodaghian, SE of John A. Martin Associates, Austin Griffis of Morphosis Architects, Tom Farrar of Clark Construction and AISC on Tuesday, October 17, for the inside story on how the designers used the geometric flexibility of structural steel to bring their vision from concept to construction. This free event runs from noon to 2:00 p.m. and will include lunch, networking, and a presentation from the design team. Subject to approval, you could earn 1.0 LU/PDH.

Those wishing to do welding or burning activities need work style boots.

You’ll experience a variety of different training stations that will allow you to experience what an ironworker does on a daily basis on a jobsite. You’ll have the opportunity to weld, flame-cut, rig a beam, or climb a column, and more--plus, you’ll learn how to make the most of IMPACT and AISC resources on your next project. The tour will take roughly two hours. The facility will have leatehr jackets, welding gloves and welding hoods for those interested in welding. Bring safety goggles and hard hats if you have them (we will have a limited number of loaners available) and be sure to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes (work boots are advised). No sleeveless shirts allowed.

Host will provide light gloves, glasses, safety for welding and cutting. Attendees should wear closed-toe shoes and pants. No tank tops/crop tops. 45 parking spots are available.
An Inside Look at 1900 Lawrence: Tour and Happy Hour

In case you missed it: 1900 Lawrence is the largest Class-A office project to break ground in Denver in 40 years! Designed with the latest technology, sustainability, and health and wellness standards in mind, 1900 Lawrence will be an anchor of the active mixed-use neighborhood surrounding Denver Union Station. Our tour kicks off at 2:30 p.m. -- and the fun doesn’t stop there! Join us after the tour for a networking happy hour at ViewHouse Ballpark. You’ll get to connect with other AEC industry professionals over drinks and light bites. Please note: Visitors to the jobsite must wear personal protective equipment including long pants and closed-toe shoes. Please gather in front of the Denver Fire House across 19th Street and directly south of the 19th St./Lawrence entry.

The goal is to educate engineers, architects, students, and others about the domestic steel fabrication industry through our facility tours and hands-on events. Capone Iron Corporation in Rowley, MA and Arco Welding are hosting the exciting event this year! It will even feature a visit from the AWS Careers in Welding Mobile Exhibit that travels the country and is making a special stop! Students will learn about the structural steel industry and the varied career paths it offers and have some fun activities and opportunities for prizes along the way!

The tour will take roughly two hours. Bring PPE if you have it (or we’ll have some you can borrow) and be sure to wear long pants, at least quarter-length sleeves, and closed-toe shoes (or boots if you have them). No sneakers are allowed. Parking is available at the facility in the form of a parking lot that fits 70 cars. Event capacity is 50 persons. Street parking may be available.

SL Chasse will offer students a range of engaging, gamified, hands-on activities at various stations. Join AISC for an IDEAS2 Awards Reception and walking tour with the project team themselves as they highlight what makes the structure so special. The completion of Moynihan came five decades after the demolition of the original Penn Station. The addition of a steel-framed, skylit boarding concourse to the 20th-century building that formerly housed New York’s James A. Farley Post Office increased the station’s public space by 50%.

2023 Steel Day Welding Competition

Join us for our 2023 Steel Day Welding Competition. This year a total of $25,000 in Rex I Lewis Scholarships will be awarded to the top twenty competitors to help further their education at any Wyoming Community College. High school juniors and seniors from as far as 500 miles away will participate in a multi-day skill and knowledge competition. The top 20 finalists will be on hand at Puma Steel on the 20th for a final round that will challenge their skills even more. Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon will be present to award students their scholarships. Lunch will be provided along with tours of our state of the art facility.
